What a trip!
Obviously from my late post, it has taken us a couple days to recuperate from the visit to Ohio! We had a rough start... Aubrey felt it was necessary to exercise her lungs for about twenty minutes on the way to Detroit. It's funny because I always became a little annoyed at the PARENTS of screaming kids, as if they could really do something about it! We arrived safely only to find out that our luggage did not. Before we left, I purchased the largest piece of luggage ever created and we think it got flagged for security reasons. I don't really blame them seeing as how several bodies could have fit comfortably in there. Aubrey proceeded to throw a fit pretty much the entire way on the hour car ride to my grandmother's house. Actually, it turned out to be a two hour journey due to traffic and snow. Believe it or not, us Miami folks don't have a lot of experience driving in such conditions! All the stress disappeared as we pulled in the familiar driveway of my grandparents' house. Everyone came running out thrilled to see us... oh wait, it was Aubrey they were thrilled to see. Kevin and I could have checked in to a hotel for the weekend and no one would have noticed! I am so glad Aubrey had the chance to meet her Uncle Brandon from Germany, Uncle Wes, and so many other aunts, uncles, and cousins. I love them all dearly and I know Aubrey will feel the same.
The moment I cherished the most was when my great-grandmother got to hold Aubrey... her great-great granddaughter. I know my grandma had been waiting since the day she was born to get her hands on that little girl. All I could think about was how much things have changed since she raised her five babies. There weren't any video monitors, or swings in the shape of papasan chairs and yet somehow, she managed just fine.
The time passed too quickly as it always does when spending time with family and friends. Just when Aubrey was becoming used to long-sleeves and the sounds of the country, it was time to go. She was an angel on the way home, sleeping from takeoff to landing. Only when we were two minutes from home did she start crying... I know it was because she misses everyone!
It is so great to have this story recorded for aubrey's history- I bet she'll read this one day and laugh about it with you'll. At least she has already experienced snow despite her beautiful Miami residence.
She is so precious and I can't wait to meet her!
